Trigger Point Injections

Trigger points are myofascial adhesions that are commonly associated with taut bands of muscle fiber. These adhesions can often cause referral pain to different areas in the body. A common example  would be when people have a tension headache that is relieved by pushing on a specific part of the neck or upper back. When myofascial trigger points become irritated they can lead to a variety of different symptoms. When acupuncture and massage are not providing lasting results, trigger point injections may be a highly effective therapy. Trigger point injections are performed by injection a small amount of solution into the muscle of the trigger point area. As with trigger point acupuncture a "twitch response" is common. The solution injected varies by practitioner, severity of pain and of course what the patient is comfortable with. Common injected solutions include:

  • Herbal Medicine

  • B Vitamins (commonly B12)

  • Dextrose

  • Lidocaine

  • Procaine

Trigger Point Injections may be effective for:

  • Muscle Spasm

  • Chronic Muscle Pain

  • Acute Muscle Pain

  • Tension Headaches

  • Sports Injuries

  • Tendonitis

  • And many other musculo-skeletal dysfunctions
